An interesting note before we begin, the Temple Guard Ascension actually looks quite a bit different from the Cx-2 Ascension, which to me was arguably one of the highest value shard packs a player could possibly buy, should they really want to max out a character. Instead, this pack presents values more similarly to the Dark Clones Ascension pack that released at the same time as Scorch - Trading shards of Appo, Cx-2, and Disguised Clone Trooper, in favor of a ton of ability materials and gear.
However, while the Cx-2 provided more shards [85], and a higher overall price tag [$85], the cost per shard [not accounting for any other rewards], remains exactly the same.
While I wasn’t on Substack at the time of those pack releases, you can find my more low-fi cost analysis of both on Reddit:
So what exactly does the new pack look like?
Note:
This is the first marquee ascension with a shard in the FREE pack, which is pretty damn cool.
New Marquees are valued at 167c/s however I value brand new marquees at 139c/s to account for the discount volume packs a player whaling on the purchase may wish to purchase instead.
Analysis
Ignoring the extra goodies, you’re paying roughly $1/shard [not accounting for the free shard as it’s not locked behind any paywall]. The “Temple Guard Bundle” has the same valuation.
At the top tier you’re receiving 20,000 crystals worth of free goodies on top of the Temple Guard shards, which is kind of cool if you need all of those goodies.
As an end game player I would break it down as:
Very little value: MK12 Armatek Holo Lens and Omegas
No Value: Kyrotech Shockprods, Battle Computers, Injector Head Salvage, and MK8 Neuro-Saav Electrobinoculars Components
It’s important to note that I recognize shock prods and battle computers are both gates for non end game players.
If I wanted to spend $60? There are worse ways to do it. I see no value in doing so if you do not intend to earn Badass Motherfucker Mace Windu on his first run, which I don’t see myself doing without hefty donations.
Reminder: Players who wish to max out a character by the end of their marquee event need to account for 145 [144 with free pack] shards being purchased.
Note: I do recommend players attempt to finish the marquee event at 58/65 so that they can maximize free shards from the first Era Battles run, this means purchasing a total of 33 shards [32 because of the 1 free here] on day 1. Spending $20 on the episode pass and an additional $15 on the first 2 tiers [35 total shards] is not a terrible idea, but I’d personally prefer to spend crystals at that point and buy 2-3 packs.
It dawned on me after doing my first account’s marquee run that the free shard compensates for 14 shards from two 1299 crystal packs, saving an extra 1299 just to get over the 4 star hump. 28/30 after a 5 shard pull feels worse after that!
58/65 that's the info I wanted, cheers
